Tony Cascarino has claimed that Mike Ashley will eventually find a buyer to end his ownership of Newcastle United.

Newcastle fans have made it loud and clear for several years that they want the Sports Direct tycoon out of the St James’ Park boardroom and there have been a few potential buyers who have made their interest known in the last year.

Amanda Staveley, Peter Kenyon and Sheikh Khaled have all been mentioned, but none of them have been able to strike an agreement with Ashley.

However talkSPORT pundit Cascarino reckons that will change and Ashley will find someone to take Newcastle off his hands.

“Newcastle fans have got to support the club. Yes Mike Ashley is not the owner you desire. That will change,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“I’m pretty sure there will be a buyer for Newcastle and Stevie Bruce has admitted today he has made mistakes already.

“If he doesn’t get those right he won’t be Newcastle manager but Rafa got a hell of a lot of support for a team who started terribly.”

OPINION

Newcastle fans have been through a lot with Ashley as their owner. They have suffered two relegations from the Premier League and in the last few months have seen some of their best players leave and Rafa Benitez go to be replaced by Steve Bruce. Newcastle haven’t started the new season well at all. Although there were positives to take from the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on the opening day, the same cannot be said about being hammered 3-0 by newly-promoted Norwich on Saturday. Bruce is meant to be a manager who can keep teams solid at the back and try to grind out results to earn safety. However a defensive mix-up cost the side against the Gunners and it did not even seem like a defence was playing at Carrow Road this weekend. Ashley seems unlikely to sell up any time soon but of course, there will be a day when he sells the club.
