Miguel Almiron was bought for goals, with the attacking midfielder scoring 22 in 70 games for Atlanta before his big-money move last January.
So far, though, it hasn’t happened for him at Newcastle.
He didn’t score in the 10 Premier League games he played in last season, although he came close to breaking his duck a number of times.
He should have scored last night in the 3-1 win against Hibs. He was played through by Jonjo Shelvey but was denied by a good save from Ofir Marciano.
It means the goal hunt goes on and there are plenty of Newcastle fans who are desperate for him to score, with one saying it would settle him down and “more will follow”.
The good news for Newcastle is that his underlying stats are good – in the 10 Premier League games he played last season he averaged 2.11 shots per 90 minutes and had an xG of 0.19 [wyscout.com]. That’s only slightly down on his career xG of 0.23 and a goal every five games would be a fantastic return for Newcastle next season.
Here’s what the Newcastle fans were saying about Almiron last night:

I’m just on about his confidence at the minute, missing that penalty and a few 1v1s so far against Hibs. The lad needs a goal and I’m sure we’ll see what we paid for

Good response from #NUFC after going a goal down early on. Nice to see Joelinton get his first goal and Longstaff score a great goal. It would be good for Almirón to get a goal in the second half, to boost his confidence.
