Geordie Shore star Marty McKenna has delivered his verdict on Sean Longstaff’s goal against Hibernian on Tuesday night.

Newcastle United won 3-1 after initially falling behind to the Scottish side.

New signing Joelinton levelled things before 21-year-old midfielder Longstaff put his side ahead with a rasping effort from the edge of the box.

Jamall Lascelles rounded out the scoring, but it was Longstaff’s effort that caught McKenna’s eye.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the reality TV star shared a video of the strike with the caption: “Some goal that like”.

OPINION

Marty isn’t wrong, to be fair. Longstaff’s goal was some effort, hit with venom and swerve from the edge of the box, and flashing past the keeper before he was really able to get down to it. There was a lot to get excited about in the young midfielder’s game last season, and for all he only featured 12 times for the first team, the hype that he generated was more than justified. A pass rate of 80.9%, including 3.3 long balls per match, plus 1.9 tackles and a dispossession rate of just 0.7 times per game, as per Whoscored, illustrated a player who was well-rounded and capable of positively affecting the engine room in a multitude of ways. His vision was superlative, and the battling streak he showed was always going to make him a firm favourite with the Toon faithful. If he can add goals into his game as well, especially this kind of thumping piledriver, then he really will be the complete package, and the Magpies will have a proper star on their hands.
