OPINION
Newcastle United are reportedly considering a swoop to sign Southampton striker Charlie Austin after he was placed on the transfer list and many fans on Twitter are thrilled with the idea of signing the 30-year-old. According to Football Insider, the Magpies are in the hunt to sign Austin, who is valued at £8million by the Saints as they aim to move him on this summer. Based on the reactions of these Newcastle fans, you would think that they are trying to snap up someone a lot more prolific than Austin. Should the Toon Army be happy to feed off the scraps of a team that has finished below them in the last two seasons? Austin has scored just nine goals in 49 Premier League appearances in the last two campaigns and that is not good enough for Newcastle, who need someone a lot more prolific to help them avoid the drop under Steve Bruce’s leadership next term. Is it that bad at Newcastle right now for a lot of the fans to be thrilled by the underwhelming idea of signing Austin?
