Jim White has mentioned Roy Keane as a potential candidate to replace Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.
The club confirmed on Monday that the Spaniard will be leaving the club at the end of his contract, as announced via their official Twitter.
And with Keane leaving his post as Martin O’Neill’s assistant at Nottingham Forest to seek a return to the frontline of management, as reported by the Guardian, White name checked the 47-year-old as a potential option for the Toon Army in a conversation with Danny Murphy on talkSPORT.
Murphy said: “From Newcastle’s perspective, they’ve got a decent squad.
“Does it need some investment? Yes. Is a new manager capable of having a successful time? Yeah. There are lots of good coaches and managers.
“Someone could go in and carry on his [Benitez’s] good work.”
White responded: “There you go, we were talking about Roy Keane earlier.
“You wonder.”

Surely not. Never in a month of Sundays can you imagine Roy Keane putting up with even 1/10th of the rubbish that Rafa Benitez has had to during his tenure as Newcastle manager. Politically, this one would be a tricky one to get over the line anyway, with Keane formerly managing bitter rivals Sunderland, but from a personable point of view, there is no way that you can imagine a man like Keane dealing with somebody like Ashley. That in itself is a real shame, because if there was one person you would put money on cutting through the dross to help solve things it would be Keane. With his no-nonsense temperament and fiery attitude, he would be a good fit in Tyneside, but you can’t help feeling that Ashley will look for somebody with a higher profile, and with a more malleable outlook. He needs a yes man with enough of a reputation to appease fans. Roy Keane is not that figure.
