Alaves will announce the signing of Newcastle United in the very near future, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The club are understood to just be waiting on “legal deadlines” to pass before making confirming the arrival of the 6’2″ striker [Transfermarkt].

The Spaniard has hit just seven goals in 52 matches for the Magpies since signing from Stoke City in 2017.

OPINION

This is brilliant news for Newcastle United. Joselu has been the dictionary definition of a flop on Tyneside, and the sooner he is off the wage bill that better. Credit where it is due, the Spaniard always put in a shift for the Magpies, but he is severely lacking in the kind of quality needed to make it in the top flight. Sometimes you can attribute a failed spell at a club to bad luck or simply being unsettled in a new environment, but Joselu was just as disappointing at Stoke, and it really is a wonder that United saw fit to buy him in the first place. It may seem like a harsh thing to say, but there will be few who miss the forward when he leaves St. James’ Park, and the extra leniency it will afford them in the transfer market could be the difference between bringing in a priority target or making do with a second choice.
