Newcastle United should take advantage of West Ham’s recent transfer setback regarding Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

According to the Evening Standard, the Hammers are set to miss out on the 25-year old midfielder who would prefer a move back to Everton, where he spent the duration of last season playing on loan.

The paper also report that Newcastle duo Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden are among the possible alternatives for Manuel Pellegrini, and this could in fact be the perfect opportunity for the Magpies to take advantage of West Ham’s misfortune.

Shelvey has only featured 18 times for the Tyneside club in all competitions this season, after falling out of favour in the eyes of Rafa Benitez, and for this reason the club should try and cash-in on the midfielder, who has reportedly attracted interest from the London club.

The 27-year old hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Newcastle first-team this season, which makes you assume that the club would be willing to listen to offers for the player should they come to fruition.

With it looking likely that Gomes will be making a return to Goodison Park next season in favour of the London Stadium, Pellegrini will be forced to look at alternatives, and Newcastle should possibly consider offering the player to the Hammers for a reduced price if they have to, as at this stage in the transfer season the club could do with some extra funds.

Newcastle would welcome the funds with open arms that the sale of Shelvey would bring, and it would certainly help the club to bring in some extra additions in the lead up to the new Premier League season.
