Newcatsle United are willing to give Rafa Benitez a £61million transfer pot to work with in the summer, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper states that Mike Ashley is thought to have kept his stance that Benitez is the man he wants in charge at St. James’ Park next season.

The owner remains clear that he will not change the spending policy at the club, however Benitez will now potentially given £61million to play with alongside the £11million which was carried forward from the January window.

Further contract discussions with Benitez have now been left in the hands of managing director Lee Charnley, who said recently to the Chronicle: “In terms of how we spend our money moving forward we would envisage spending it on quality rather than quantity – players that can really make the difference and improve the team.”

OPINION

Newcastle fans will no doubt be happy that there is finally some stability coming into their club, with it looking increasingly likely that Benitez will be managing the club for the forthcoming season. Newcastle are surely now in a great position going into the summer transfer window, and there is a lot of improvements that can be made to the team with the £61million that is being offered to Benitez. Along with potential outgoings and the extra £11million carried over from the January window, there are plenty of additions that can be made before the new Premier League season, all which could help the Magpies in their push for a higher finish next season. This may end up helping to solve issues over the last few weeks regarding potential signings, and means that the club can finally start planning for potential in-comings once Benitez’s contract is finally sorted out. This summer may prove to be an interesting one for the Newcastle faithful.
