Lee Ryder has delivered an update on the prospective Newcastle United takeover by Sheikh Khaled, sharing a statement from the interested party.

There has been widespread uncertainty over the extent to which any prospective deal between the Bin Zayed Group and Mike Ashley was going ahead, but it would appear that Khaled’s team believe things are moving well.

In a tweet to his personal Twitter account, Ryder shared a statement from the Dubai-based group saying: “Terms have been agreed between us and Mike Ashley; these terms have been reflected in a document, signed by both parties, which has been forwarded to the Premier League.”

OPINION

If this is true, then this could be a massive update on this whole saga. There has been much talk about what was happening, and much supposition on how far advanced the deal was, but this would appear to show that things are progressing at a rate of knots. That being said, we have been here before. We saw a similar level of certainty from Khaled and his group earlier in the week when the story first broke, and even after receiving an update like this, it is important to take everything with a pinch of salt. Nothing should be taken for granted until there is an official confirmation from the club. Whether that will come in the near future, if at all, remains to be seen of course, but it would seem that at the very least the Bin Zayed Group’s interest in Newcastle is solid and is not going anywhere.
