Newcastle should sign Mooy

Newcastle United are in a figurative no man’s land at the moment.

You can look at almost any aspect of their squad and there is at least some degree of uncertainty.

Starting with the most obvious thing, nobody has any idea what is happening with this supposed takeover from Sheikh Khaled, but even taking that out of the equation, Rafa Benitez is yet to sign a new contract, Salomon Rondon’s loan has come to an end, and Ayoze Perez is being linked with a move away to any one of a host of top European sides, as reported by Calcio Mercato.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

There’s every chance that the Magpies could be facing a mini-exodus in the centre of the park as well. Mo Diame is out of contract, Isaac Hayden has made no secret of his desire to be nearer to his family down south, and Jonjo Shelvey has also been mooted for a potential exit, as reported by the Northern Echo.

At least they can do something immediately to combat this particular problem though.

According to Australian outlet The World Game, Huddersfield Town are willing to sell playmaker Aaron Mooy for a fee in the region of around £15 million – and Newcastle are named as one of six Premier League clubs interested in snapping him up.

And they should. the 28-year-old has shown that he is a fine talent, more than capable of cutting it in the top flight, and the prospect of what he could achieve with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Perez around him is truly mouthwatering.

The competition will be tough, but the fee is affordable, and the Toon Army should make a move, regardless of whether they get bought out or not.
