Newcastle forward Joselu has revealed he is weighing up his options after admitting he has the chance to leave St James’ Park.

After arriving from Stoke, the Spaniard was the clubs main forward until Venezuelan forward Salomon Rondon forced him down the pecking order. Benitez favoured the West Brom loanee who limited Joselu to nine minutes of Premier League football since January.

The 29-year-old admitted he had an offer on the table to leave but wanted to see how the current takeover of the club would affect his position in Rafael Benitez’ plans going forward.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, the £40,000 per-week [Spotrac] forward said: “I have one year left on the contract at Newcastle, I have chances to change but it will depend on the new board that will come to the club.”

OPINION

This is a strange admission with Joselu who is holding himself in high esteem despite the fact he is clearly not in Rafael Benitez plans this season or even in the future. Only scoring three goals in total will not do much to persuade anyone involved at Newcastle that he is worth keeping at all. New owners or not, the Magpies will be looking to strengthen their strikers and Joselu has reportedly been shortlisted to be sold to be able to do this. If there is an offer to take the 29-year-old away from the club permanently in the summer then Benitez will no likely sell the forward without a doubt. Joselu seems to be making his own demands and would happily not feature much if he was to stay at the club which could be a huge waste of the £40,000 wages which could be used on bringing in a younger striker that could offer much more.
