Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has urged current star Ayoze Perez to join Inter Milan.

The 25-year-old Spaniard has been linked with both the Italian side and Premier League giants Arsenal, as reported by The Sun, but Hislop believes that a move to the Serie A top four side would be the better option of the two.

Speaking on ESPN FC, as quoted by the Express, he said: “You can understand the interest.

“And I’ll be honest, if I’m advising Ayoze Perez, given what’s happening at Inter, given they’re not quite sure whether [Mauro] Icardi’s staying, who the manager will be, and then you look at what’s happening at Arsenal.

“I don’t see him getting in ahead of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette, certainly as good as that partnership has been.

“If I’m advising him, and it’s a choice between the two, I go to Inter.”

OPINION

Newcastle fans won’t be too happy to hear this. A former player advising a current star to leave the club is never going to go over too well with supporters, but you can understand where Hislop is coming from. Given a direct choice between Inter and Arsenal, surely Inter would be the better destination for Perez. There are no guarantees that he would get anywhere near the Gunners’ side, given their wealth of attacking options, and he is far too good a player to be sitting on the bench every week. As for Inter, despite all of their pedigree and history, this is still a team lacking in real quality in some areas, and Perez coming in would go a long way to helping them solve their attacking issues. All of that being said, in an ideal world, the Spaniard wouldn’t be going anywhere. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t listen to Hislop.
