If you told any given Newcastle United fan that the club were being linked with a swoop for a South American goal machine, you would naturally assume that they would be delighted. After all, you would be hard pushed to find a Geordie anywhere who didn’t want the club to make a move for Salomon Rondon this summer. But according to the latest report from Don Balon, it isn’t Rondon the Magpies are after, but Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos. The report suggests that the Magpies will make a move for the Colombian, who hit 30 goals at Ibrox this season. And most fans aren’t too happy with the suggestion. The issue is that Morelos has also accumulated five red cards this season, and is regarded by many as something of a liability. Certainly, he doesn’t seem like the sort of player Rafa Benitez would usually put his trust in. That either means that the report is false, or that Benitez is on his way out of the club. No prizes for guessing which is more likely, or for that matter, which one Newcastle fans would rather see happen this summer. Supporters don’t seem too happy, but that’s okay because the chances of this happening are surely quite slim.
