Newcastle United will have to spend £10million to secure the signing of transfer target Yannick Bolasie this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that there is a clause in the Everton winger’s contract which will allow him to leave Goodison Park for the aforementioned amount.

The Sun reported earlier this week that the Magpies are joined by Southampton and Crystal Palace in their interest in the 29-year-old.

The Toffees are ready to sell the DR Congo international, who has had loan spells at Championship side Aston Villa and Belgian heavyweights Anderlecht this season.

OPINION

Is Bolasie really worth £10million at this stage of his career? It’s hard to say. He showed some promise at both Villa and Anderlecht, but certainly didn’t blow anyone away in either loan spell. So to spend that amount of money on him is a bit of a gamble. He is a proven Premier League performer, of course, but it’s difficult to know whether he’s still at the same level as he was when he was in his Palace heyday. Obviously the Saints and the Eagles will also be looking at him and so the contract clause prevents this from turning into a bidding war. However, it might be worth the Magpies giving Everton a call and seeing whether there’s any room for negotiation to avoid overspending on a player who’s done very little since moving to Goodison Park. In all honesty £10million is too much for Bolasie in his present state, but Rafael Benitez’s side do need some help on the wings after an up-and-down season from their widemen. So we’ll see what happens with this one, but Newcastle mustn’t be held over a barrel here by any means.
