Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez.

The £45,000-a-week Spaniard [Spotrac] scored a wonderful glancing header to open the scoring against Leicester City in his side’s Premier League win on Friday night, and Sutton was quick to sing his praises.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Some header that from Perez”.

OPINION

To be fair, this was a sublime header from Perez, and one that could prove to be vital for Newcastle United’s survival hopes. The delivery from Matt Ricthie is exquisite, arrowed and precise, but the Spaniard still had a lot to do to find the back of the net. First of all, his movement is brilliant. To read the flight of the ball and steal a march on Wes Morgan shows his intelligence, but to then fling himself in the path of the hulking defender shows his bravery and desire to win as well. In the face of all that, to then apply the deftest of finishes to guide it past Kasper Schmeichel was a piece of real class. Perez has come in for a hard time from certain sections of the Magpies’ support in recent months, but after a number of stellar performances, he must surely have silenced his doubters for good. For these reason it was good to hear Sutton rave about Perez during the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Leicester City.
