Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has been somewhat of a lifeline for the team this season after signing on loan from West Brom.

While he is not the most prolific of forwards out there, there is no denying the contribution that the makes on a weekly basis for the Magpies. However, it can be a bit lonely for him up front by himself, so it is paramount that an attacker is signed this summer.

One player who they must reignite their hunt for his Guingamp frontman Marcus Thuram, somebody that Newcastle were keen on in January according to Team Talk.

The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals in 31 games in Ligue 1 this season, and signing him would be a masterstroke by Rafa Benitez if he extends his stay with the club. Seeing as he is looking to beef up his frontline, Thuram would be the ideal capture.

He knows that the team are relying on Rondon too much to deliver the goods. There is no guarantee that he is going to be at the club next term, so moving for Thuram would be wise.

Standing at a staggering 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt] tall, it is clear that Thuram has the height and strong build to thrive in an environment like the Premier League. It may take him a while to adapt to the demands of the division, his tally suggests that he has a lot to offer.

The Magpies need a hungry, eager forward like the young ace if they are to get the best out of their main centre-forward next season, whether that is Rondon or not. Moving to the Premier League could see him progress rapidly, and it should be United who make the most of that.

Newcastle could play a blinder if they revisit their pursuit of Thuram, as he is just the player they need.
