COMMENTARY
It would be fair to say that Newcastle United fans were left with plenty to be desired from their side after Monday night’s defeat away at Arsenal. It was a lethargic performance from the Magpies and while no one was expecting them to go to the Emirates and snatch what would have been only their second win versus the Gunners since 2010, they would have been expected to have a go. With that in mind you know that a clash against Crystal Palace – a side much more closely matched to Newcastle – at home is going to be seen as a winnable game and after Monday’s display there will be a certain expectation placed on the players’ shoulders. It seems as though the supporters wanted to see more creativity in the middle of the park in the shape of Jonjo Shelvey but the English maestro was left on the bench – as confirmed on the club’s official Twitter account – and it was not a decision which went down well. Having not played a significant amount of minutes of late, you can imagine Benitez does not want to rush him back, but with the summer transfer window round the corner, the Toon Army are fearing the midfielder’s exit. Can he save his career at St James’ Park before the season is out?

Don’t see why you wouldn’t start Shelvey today. Playing at home, practically safe. Have a go #nufc
