A report from The Times on Wednesday, courtesy of respected north east correspondent George Caulkin, claimed that Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has heard nothing back from the club’s hierarchy since telling them what it will take to keep him at the club two weeks ago. The Spaniard did so at the board’s request, believing that his wishlist would form the basis of contract negotiations. However, two weeks later and there has been zero progress made. This news, as you can expect, has left the majority of Newcastle supporters incensed. This is typical Mike Ashley, really. The club are his last priority, a play thing that he only picks up when he’s become bored of everything else. No doubt his dalliances with Debenhams have left him with no time to ponder the fate of the first genuinely world class manager Newcastle have had since Sir Bobby Robson… You do worry that Benitez will eventually become fed up with the shambles that is Newcastle United football club. For now, though, all the fans can do is silently seethe and hope for the best.
