The Chronicle journalist Ciaran Kelly tweeted on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning that Magpies star man Ayoze Perez wants to see the club make progress if he is to stick around. That revelation – if it can be called that – has been met with the expected response from the Newcastle supporters. They believe that if this is what Perez needs to see from the club then he will most probably be leaving in the near future. That’s because there is no reasonable Magpies fan who at this point believes that owner Mike Ashley is going to change the way he’s been running the club. He seems to be content for the club to hang out around the bottom half of the Premier League, collect its TV rights money and keep treading water. But that’s not what ambitious people like Rafael Benitez and Perez want from their careers. So with that said, it’s probably unlikely that Perez is going to remain at St James’ Park. It’s a shame, but that’s just the way things are at the club with Ashley at the helm.
