OPINION
You’d be forgiven for forgetting about Dave Kitson, whose football career was about as forgettable as they come. That might by why the former Reading striker has whipped up a frenzy among Newcastle fans by claiming to talkSPORT that Mike Ashley is getting close to selling the Tyneside club. As quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle, Kitson has said that a negotiations are underway to sell Newcastle for between “£300million and £400million”, despite no update from any source close to Newcastle in a long time. That might be why many Newcastle supporters on Twitter feel as though they have heard it all before about Ashley selling up, and none of them seem to believe this story. Why would Kitson have inside knowledge on St James’ Park? It seems like something he’s said just to get his name out there, with not many people realising that he’s taken up a role in punditry since hanging up his boots.
