OPINION
The Chronicle journalist Ciaran Kelly tweeted a video on to his personal twitter account on Tuesday afternoon of Florian Lejeune walking just six days after having surgery on his reoccurring knee injury. The French defender injured the same knee in pre-season and only recently fought his way back to full fitness to force his way back into Rafael Benitez’ plans only for the identical problem to end his season the same way it started. The video was met with jubilance as Newcastle fans’ rejoiced the quick recovery of the defensive rock, one happy fan labelled Lejeune the ‘bionic man’. This is definitely great news for all involved as many would of feared a much more serious outcome with it being a repeat injury, match that with the agony shown on Lejeune’s face as he was stretchered off against Crystal Palace and it could of been a nightmare situation. Knee injuries usually force a player out for nine months but early results of surgery show Lejeune could be fully recovered in half that time which would ready him for the start of next season.
Florian Lejeune now walking unaided – just a few days after his operation. Encountered few problems with swelling or inflammation post-surgery, as it was a relatively quick procedure, so has been able to start rehabilitation immediately. Remarkable. #nufc pic.twitter.com/kdWhX0s8FQ
