Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has been a class act all season and has shown similar qualities in a recent statement regarding diving.

The 27-year old has revealed to The Chronicle this week that he refused to dive in Newcastle’s fixture with Brighton.

Speaking after the game, Schar said: “If I go down it’s a penalty.

“I felt the contact but it’s not my intention to go on the floor to get a penalty.

“I just tried to get the ball.”

Arguably, there are very few players in the modern game who would bypass the opportunity to win their side a penalty, however it has always been frowned upon to do this through diving.

Schar has shown his class once again after his latest remarks, and there are a number of players particularly in the Premier League who could learn a lot from the Swiss international.

Although Newcastle failed to win all three points in their fixture with Brighton, there will be positives taken from the game, especially after the defender’s honest display of sportsmanship.

Schar has been showing all of the signs so far this season of a future club hero on the pitch, and he could find himself in a pivotal role in the coming years at St. James’ Park.

Yet he is even more destined to be a club hero as how can any Newcastle fan not respect a player who refuses to cheat to win.

The 27-year old has been an important figure this season for The Magpies, after his goal scoring antics have worked well with his impressive defensive ability.

Rafa Benitez will no doubt have a spot for Schar in his future plans with the club, and if he can keep up the form and class that he has shown this season, he will more than likely be a real fan favourite for years to come.
