Newcastle United legend Mick Quinn has urged club owner Mike Ashley to secure Rafa Benitez’ future after the win against Leicester on Friday.
The Magpies defeated the Foxes 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ayoze Perez, a result which Quinn described as being “fantastic”, as it means that United have secured their Premier League status for another season.
However, Quinn seemed to focus his attention on Ashley getting Benitez signed up on a new contract as soon as possible after the vital victory.
“Fantastic win for The Mighty Mags last night, so cmon Ash, flash the cash and get Rafa signed up with a new contract asap,” he said on his personal Twitter account on Saturday morning.

It remains to be seen just when Benitez’ future with Newcastle will actually be sorted. Why aren’t the club doing it now? They are perhaps waiting until the season ends, but with a manager with the experience the Spaniard has, they need to sort out the small details as soon as possible. He is not going to wait around forever, and to be honest, Ashley is taking his time. He is lucky to have a manager like Benitez on board, and if that was any other owner, they would have tied him down to a new contract a very long time ago. That being said, now that the club have virtually avoided relegation this season, Ashley now has no excuse but to roll his sleeves up and “flash the cash”. With Benitez on board next season, Newcastle are more than capable of achieving a top ten finish – so what are you waiting for Ashley?
