Transfer windows have been anticipated with a bit of trepidation by Newcastle United supporters in recent years. However, for one reason at least, they will be looking forward to this summer.

That’s because, barring some bizarre miracle, the club will finally be rid of on-loan flop Kenedy. The 23-year-old is in his second spell with the Magpies amid what has turned into an 18-month loan period in the North East.

However, he has been absolutely useless this season and the Toon Army will surely be only too happy to see the back of him this summer. Indeed, it’s imperative that manager Rafael Benitez banishes the Brazilian come the end of the season.

Any thoughts of a permanent deal have surely long gone for Newcastle and it would be a disaster were they to commit themselves to the 23-year-old long term.

The winger’s performance against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday demonstrated why it’s high time the player departed St James’ Park. He was given his chance when attacker Ayoze Perez went off injured around the half hour mark, but produced a complete horror show.

It was another wildly ineffectual outing in a season full of them for Kenedy. Simply put, he has not been good enough and the day his loan period ends will be one that’s celebrated on Tyneside. You almost didn’t realise he was on the pitch for the majority of the game at the AMEX Stadium.

It’s always harsh to advocate players exits from clubs, but when it’s a loan deal like this one it’s a no-brainer. Kenedy must return to Chelsea this summer – his Saturday showing proved why.
