Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper has claimed that Spurs have scouted the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window, when Mauricio Pochettino will more than likely make a few signings due to a number of players being expected to leave.

Michel Vorm and Fernando Llorente will both be out of contract at the end of the season and it is understood that Spurs will also listen to offers for Victor Wanyama, George-Kévin Nkoudou and Vincent Janssen.

Longstaff appears to be on a long list of players who Spurs are looking at to potentially replace those who might be leaving.

OPINION

Longstaff has emerged as one of Newcastle’s best academy graduates in recent years with a series of fine performances this season. He has made his senior debut for the Magpies this term and has in total made 13 appearances across all competitions before a season-ending knee injury he picked up earlier this month. You can understand why Tottenham would be looking at Longstaff. He showcased immense quality in his displays for the Magpies, and he certainly has the potential to become an England international in the near future. Spurs could do with homegrown players and they could do with adding to their midfield as Mousa Dembele left in January and Wanyama could be sold in the summer. Newcastle need to hang onto Longstaff though. Let’s say Spurs will pay £20million for him this summer. The summer after that he could be worth £40million. And the summer after that, who knows? It’s too soon for the Magpies to cash in on Longstaff yet, they need to keep him.
