OPINION

Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez had quite the afternoon in his team’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Everton at St James’ Park on Saturday. The Spaniard was absolutely woeful in the first half and was one of the team’s worst players. Somehow, though, he turned it all around in the second period. The 25-year-old set Salomon Rondon up for the Magpies’ first goal, before bagging two himself to snatch three points from a game in which the hosts were 2-0 down. It truly was an unbelievable second half performance from the Newcastle stalwart and he should be very proud of himself. He has this in his locker, which is why it’s so frustrating for the club’s supporters when he produces anonymous performances. However, this is clearly why Rafael Benitez continues to select him week in week out and you can’t really argue with the Newcastle boss’ decision on Saturday.
