Newcastle United could seal a masterstroke by signing goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley in the summer.

The Daily Mail reported last month that the Magpies have been keeping close tabs on the the 26-year-old’s situation at Turf Moor, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham also eyeing him up.

It is understood that the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus is open to leaving Burnley in the summer in a bid to earn more first team football as he is currently third-choice for Sean Dyche behind Tom Heaton and Joe Hart.

Pope suffered a serious shoulder injury in the Europa League qualifiers at the start of the season and has only managed three appearances in all competitions in 2018/19 as a result.

However he would still be a top-class signing for Newcastle in the summer, especially are there are doubts over the futures of the current goalkeepers at St James’ Park.

The Chronicle has reported that Juventus and Arsenal are both interested in Martin Dubravka while another report by the Chronicle says that Everton want to sign Freddie Woodman and Rob Elliot could be sold in the summer.

Judging by the teams interested in Newcastle’s current goalkeepers, there is every chance that they could find themselves in need of one or two replacements in the summer, and Pope would certainly be up to the right standard for that.

The former Charlton shot-stopper earned his debut cap for England last year due to his solid form at Burnley and the reported interest from clubs like Man City and Liverpool proves that he is a very good goalkeeper.

Newcastle could definitely sign a worse goalkeeper than him in the summer if players like Dubravka and Woodman have their head turned by prying eyes from elsewhere.
