Huddersfield Town have fought valiantly during their time in the Premier League, but honestly, it looks as though their days are numbered.

The Terriers have been labouring away at the foot of the table to no avail recently and their time must surely be running out.

The largest issue they have is an obvious lack of Premier League quality, but in amongst the rough, there are a couple of diamonds who still manage to catch the eye.

Take Aaron Mooy for example. The 39 cap Australian international is an intelligent ball-playing midfielder with an eye for a pass and an instinctual relationship with the back of the net.

In short, he would be a brilliant option for most mid table Premier League sides, and should Town succumb to the inevitable, he will surely be snapped up by a top tier side.

According to Australia-based commentator Simon Hill, Newcastle United should be one of the teams in the hunt for his signature.

Speaking to Fox Sports, he said: “I just wonder whether a return to the Scottish Premier League (could be on the cards) with maybe a Rangers.

“Or maybe somewhere like a Newcastle. Let’s be honest, he’s not going to go to Man United or Man City or Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea etc but I think that next tier down of club is a possibility.”

It’s hard to disagree with him. Newcastle are a side who must surely be looking up rather than down now after a decent period of revitalisation in recent weeks, and Mooy is a dazzling player who could be a valued part of that transformation.

With Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden enjoying an unexpected renaissance, there is perhaps an argument that the Magpies are already well stocked in the centre of the park, but with uncertainty surrounding the likes of Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey, and with Hayden also understood to be seeking move away, as reported by Sky Sports, reinforcements could well be needed.

Mooy could be just the man they need to be looking at.
