Mike Ashley is surely thrilled to know that Newcastle United flop Joselu could head to the Chinese Premier League in the summer transfer window.

The Chronicle has reported that Joselu, 28, could end his disappointing stint at St James’ Park with a “lucrative” switch to China on the cards.

It is understood that there is interest in the former Stoke striker, who has scored just seven goals in 52 appearances across all competitions since joining the Magpies in August 2017.

Ashley will definitely be happy to see that Joselu is attracting attention from elsewhere.

He has been so bad on Tyneside that it would have appeared impossible to cash in on the Spaniard until this surprise interest from China materialised.

It is extremely good news for Newcastle because they can get a poor player off their books, and it is even better news for Ashley, who no doubt knows that clubs in China pay over-the-odds for some downright average players.

Newcastle paid £5million to sign Joselu from Stoke just under two years ago and you would have thought that they would at the very least recoup that money if a club from the Chinese Super League makes an offer to sign him in the summer.

The Magpies should really accept whatever comes their way for a striker who has been a real flop for them in the last two seasons, but there is bound to be some club in China who offers way more than what the ex-Frankfurt man is worth.

It is very good news though for Newcastle that Joselu could be on his way out in the summer and it is an added bonus that he could end up going for a decent fee.
