Everton are keeping tabs on Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper reports on their website that the Toffees are keen on the 22-year-old shot stopper alongside Premier League rivals Arsenal, with Fulham and Scottish club Celtic already watching the youngster in action this season.

The report adds that Woodman was not allowed to go out on loan recently due to the situation surrounding his contract, which currently has just one year left to run on it.

OPINION

It remains to be seen just why Newcastle did not allow Woodman to go out on loan recently. He clearly is not going to get any game time at the club any time soon – not with Martin Dubravka between the sticks as first choice, anyway. The youngster needs minutes under his belt as well as regular game time, and by keeping him at the club, Newcastle are just stunting the progress that he has the potential to make. The fact he has clubs like Everton keeping tabs on him is a step in the right direction though. Woodman needs a loan move to help him develop, and this may just be the place who can help him do that, especially with Jordan Pickford not being in the form of his life at the moment. Newcastle need to stop being so stubborn and let him leave, even if there is just one year left to run on his contract. They just need to take a risk that if he gets some useful experience out on loan that the Magpies are still able to get him a contract to keep him at St James Park beyond 2020.
