Dorus de Vries is surely heading for a Celtic Park exit in the summer amid the Hoops’ reported hunt to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

The Metro newspaper has claimed this week that the 22-year-old is on the radar of Celtic as he will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

It is understood that Newcastle are expected to cash in on the in-demand goalkeeper, who is also said to be attracting attention from Arsenal, Everton and Fulham.

Celtic already have three goalkeepers in their squad, so one of them is surely going to be told to find a new club in the next transfer window, otherwise signing Woodman – or even thinking about signing him – would be pointless.

Scott Bain has emerged as the Bhoys’ number one since the end of the winter break and Craig Gordon’s current deal does not expire until the summer of 2020.

That means that de Vries has to be the man who will be shown towards the exit door in the summer – and it make a lot of sense.

De Vries, 38, joined Celtic in 2016, but since then he has made just 15 appearances across all competitions in the first team.

He has not played since the Scottish Cup win against Morton last March and what is more damning is that his contract expires at the end of this season.

The 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus has been on the bench in Celtic’s last two league games, but due to the form of Bain and Gordon’s contract having another 12 months on it, it may be time for the Hoops fans to wave goodbye to the Belgian shot-stopper, who appears to be on borrowed time now that the club is interested in Woodman.
