Amanda Staveley has admitted that he is still keen 0n investing in a Premier League side, and that she remains a fan of Newcastle United.

The businesswoman was heavily linked with a bid for the Toon Army last year before the deal seemingly fell apart, with current Mike Ashley refereeing to her consortium as ‘time wasters’.

Speaking to the National, however, Staveley suggested that she was still interested in the Tyneside club: “We are big fans of Newcastle, big fans of the team.

“We have no issue with Mr Ashley, that [the ‘time waster’ claim] is water under the bridge. It’s still an interesting club to us, the fans are fantastic, but we are looking at a lot of clubs.”

OPINION

Once upon a time, this might have been a story that sparked some kind of hope or optimism in Newcastle fans, but they have grown so desensitised to the constant cycle of rinse and repeat rumours over a potential sale that they would be forgiven if they simply dismissed this as an attempt to fill column inches. Their cynicism is justified, and they have been repeatedly messed around by an owner who blatantly puts his own interests before that of the club, but Stanley’s comments could be a great thing for them. The fact that she has been in once and is potentially willing put her neck on the line again shows that she retains some kind of genuine interest in the club, and if a deal were to come off, the impression you get is that she would endeavour to run the club in the right way. At the moment, this is just an interview in a newspaper, but it could hint at a bright future for the Magpies.
