Newcastle United have joined the hunt for Juventus left-back Rogerio and are willing to pay £12million for his signature, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report in their live transfer blog [Sunday, 15:43] that the Magpies have joined Southampton and Wolves in the race for the 21-year-old flyer, who is currently on loan at Sassuolo.

The Mirror claim that Wolves are prepared to pay £12million for the Brazilian, which Newcastle are ready to match, although they would prefer an initial loan with an option to buy in the summer.

OPINION

Signing Rogerio would be a great move for Newcastle this month, with the young Brazilian looking likely to develop into a quality player. The 21-year-old has been a regular feature for Sassuolo so far this season, with his loan club currently sitting in tenth in the Serie A table. Juventus rate Rogerio highly but with so many quality options ahead of him in Turin, an exit may be best for all parties. £12million would be a reasonable price for Rogerio, and it amazingly looks like Newcastle are willing to pay such a fee. The issue here will however be the competition for his signature, with Wolves looking keen to snap him up while Southampton are also lurking. Newcastle must therefore make their move quickly for the 21-year-old, or they will once again miss out on another target. The Magpies have missed out on too many players in recent windows, and manager Rafa Benitez is desperate for signings, with this deal being a good way to round off a disappointing month.
