Newcastle United are in the hunt for Blackburn Rovers player Lewis Travis along with five other Premier League clubs, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Magpies are not alone in their monitoring of the 21-year-old, as they will have to fight it out with Newcastle’s league rivals, who have been watching the young ace in action quite often.

The report adds that the 6ft [Transfermarkt] ace – who Rafa Benitez is a big fan of – had the option to leave the Championship club on a temporary basis at the start of the season, but opted to remain at Ewood Park in order to try his luck in the first team.

OPINION

Travis no doubt proved his worth to Rafa Benitez when Newcastle took on Blackburn twice in the FA Cup third round recently, so it is no surprise that the Magpies are battling six other clubs to sign him. However, he has only just broken into Tony Mowbray’s team this season, so it is safe to say that he is slightly inexperienced. That is not denying the talent that Travis quite obviously has, but the fact that he has not experienced a lot of Championship football would mean that moving for him would be a bold risk. How can a player who has just got his chance at Blackburn going to fare in the Premier League? That is a huge step up for him, and it will no doubt take him quite a while to adjust to the high standards no matter what club he could potentially end up at this month.
