Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Slavia Prague centre-back Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet report that the Magpies are one of three Premier League sides chasing a deal for the 28-year-old this month, with Fulham and Cardiff City also in pursuit.

Calciomercato claim that the 6’3″ Cameroon international colossus [Transfermarkt] has a release clause of just £3.9million, and a deal could take place before the deadline in four days’ time.

And yet another name is added to the long list of players linked with Newcastle United this month. The Magpies have been rumoured with moves for so many different players, but are showing no sign of actually being close to agreeing any deals. Manager Rafa Benitez sounded extremely defeatist after their 2-0 loss to Watford in the FA Cup this weekend, with the Spaniard obviously resigned to the fact that the club may end up not signing anyone. If that does happen then it would be criminal from his superiors, who will be well aware of the need to strengthen. Ngadeu-Ngadjui would be a solid signing for Newcastle, with the tall centre-back looking ready to make a step up, but there is serious question regarding the need for another central defender. That is actually one position in which the Magpies are well-stocked, and they would be best served looking for attackers and wing-backs.
