OPINION
Newcastle United are thought to be close to agreeing a deal for the loan signing of left wing back Jordan Lukaku from Lazio, according to the personal Twitter account of Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio even went so far as to say the deal is done on his Twitter account. The overwhelming reaction from the Newcastle fans seems to be one of excitement. They feel that, by and large, this looks like it could be a very good signing for the club. Certainly, it was a position that manager Rafael Benitez needed to strengthen. The Spaniard only really has Paul Dummett as an orthodox left back, and the Welsh international has struggled with injury problems at times this season. Lukaku would provide competition for him, while fitting perfectly into the five man backline that Benitez has been employing of late. That in turn would allow midfielder Matt Ritchie to be pushed further forward. All in all, it seems like the Newcastle fans are right to be optimistic.
