OPINION

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has undergone something of a renaissance in recent weeks on Tyneside. An afterthought earlier this season, the former Chelsea man has worked hard to become one of the first names on the team sheet for manager Rafael Benitez at this moment in time. He produced another solid performance in his team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday night. The Ghana international made life difficult for the United defence from the first whistle to the last, producing some lovely touches, if not always having the end product required. Antonio Valencia, in particular, had a difficult time keeping the winger in check, which resulted in two first half opportunities for the 26-year-old. He wasn’t able to take either of them, indeed he produced two poor attempts on goal really, but he showed enough to give the Magpies fans encouragement moving forward. He does need to improve in the final third, but he showed once again that he is making positive developments this term.
