Newcastle United fans will have long been dreaming of seeing Miguel Almiron holding up the famous Magpies shirt and smiling for the cameras.

Atlanta United star Almiron has been heavily linked with a move to St. James’ Park for many months now, and it had looked towards the beginning of the window that Newcastle were actually close to signing the 24-year-old.

However, with just three days now remaining in the window, as always seems to happen with Newcastle, the club have failed to secure his signature after refusing to increase their offer.

The likelihood of their viewpoint changing in the coming few days is extremely low, and the latest report on the situation is essentially the nail in the coffin for their hopes of signing the talented playmaker.

As reported by the Northern Echo on Tuesday, Serie A giants Inter Milan and Napoli have both now opened talks with Almiron’s representatives, with both clubs expressing an interest in a deal.

And, with more talks scheduled for the last days of the window, this development basically ends Newcastle’s chances of signing the Paraguay international.

Either Inter or Napoli are now likely to snap him up, and even if they don’t, the chances of a deal then being agreed between the Magpies and Atlanta United are extremely low.

As stated in the report, Newcastle are short of the MLS club’s valuation by £5million, and the likelihood of Mike Ashley stumping up the cash is basically non-existent.

If they hadn’t already, then Newcastle fans should now kiss goodbye to their chances of signing the electric attacking midfielder, who would have been the perfect addition for Rafa Benitez this month.
