It is not a surprise in the slightest that this section of Newcastle fans have slammed the performance of midfielder Isaac Hayden in this 2-0 defeat to Manchester United. This was not the most convincing performance from him, so it is no wonder one supporter remarked how he “couldn’t get a game for Gateshead.” He was all over the place until he was taken off in the second half for Jonjo Shelvey, and to be honest, he was completely overran by the United midfield. Another fan said he is a “Championship player making Championship mistakes”, and based on the level of performance the fans saw on Wednesday night, that verdict is not far wrong. His inclusion within in the team highlights how much the Magpies need to recruit in this current transfer window, so hopefully this match was a wake-up call for Rafa Benitez. Hayden needs to do a lot better if he is to continue making the starting XI, otherwise he is just giving the manager more reasons to axe him from the line-up.
