Newcastle United are in the race to sign Trabzonspor midfielder Abdülkadir Omur, according to Karadeniz Gazete.
The Turkish football outlet claim that the Magpies are a suitor for the 19-year-old right-sided midfielder along with fellow Premier League club Liverpool.
Karadeniz Gazete report that Rafa Benitez is keen on the player as he has been particularly insistent about signing Omur.
This seems completely wide of the mark as Omur going to the Magpies doesn’t seem likely. Benitez may be an admirer of the promising teenager’s talents as he has been involved in six goals in the 17 outings he has made this season, but given his potential surely he’d be too pricey for the Magpies. Then there’s the fact that the Magpies would have to compete with Liverpool apparently for the midfielder’s signature and given how good they’re doing this season, Omur would no doubt rather rock up at Anfield if he is going to change club anytime soon. Omur can play as a right-sided midfielder, left-sided midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder so could do a job if recruited by the Magpies anytime soon, but you feel going after him might be a waste time. Hopefully the Turkish outlet are wrong with this report and the Magpies are targeting players they have a better chance of getting this month, otherwise you fear they will sign no one.
