The monetary demands of Atlanta United winger Miguel Almiron and his agent are stumbling blocks in Newcastle United’s pursuit of the player, according to journalist Damian Spellman.
The Press Association reporter revealed the key behind-the-scenes update on his personal Twitter account, claiming that the player’s wage demands and his agents’ fees are an issue for the Magpies.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this season that Newcastle had held talks with the Major League Soccer side about Almiron.
However, this latest development is a serious blow to Rafael Benitez’s chances of landing the Paraguay international this month.

This is the sort of news that nobody on Tyneside wanted to see. This was rather inevitable, however. Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is notorious for his penchant for penny pinching and it’s unlikely that the Magpies would be able to offer Almiron astronomical wages. It all depends on what the player is asking for in regards to whether this is a faux pas from the club or simply a case of a greedy player/agent demanding more than they’re worth. It’s probably a bit of both, to be honest. It would be a shame for finances to get in the way of this deal because Almiron has the look of a decent player and he operates in an area of the pitch where the Magpies desperately need reinforcements. Hopefully this is a situation that proves fixable for Newcastle because otherwise they’d be missing out on a much-needed talent. Let’s see what happens over the rest of this month.
