John Motson claimed that Newcastle United were yet again facing the immediate threat of Premier League relegation after losing to West Ham.

The famous commentator shared that the 3-0 victory the Hammers achieved over the Magpies was great for them, but wasn’t good news for Rafa Benitez’s side especially with them facing Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Motson then described Magpies supporters using just one word when he labelled them ‘unsettled’ before claiming Benitez will be wondering about his January budget.

“It’s a great result for West Ham as it happens as it keeps them in that group that aren’t really under immediate threat but Newcastle are back in the group that are under immediate threat as I think they’ve got Everton away,” said Motson on talkSPORT (Monday December 3rd, 14:50).

“Anyway I think Rafa Benitez is still where he was, wondering despite those three things, still wondering if he’ll get any money in January and the fans still unsettled.”

OPINION

Motson has spoken a lot about the Magpies this season and he hasn’t exactly been positive in the process. The famous voice suggested when fans could turn on Benitez when predicting the clash with Manchester United earlier in the season and stated there was no such thing as an easy game for the Magpies when looking ahead to them dealing with Leicester City in September. Then again maybe that shouldn’t be a surprise as Motson did boldly predict that this season the Magpies would end up suffering relegation in an interview with The Sun as he claimed the strained relationship between Benitez and Ashley could condemn the club to the Championship. However it seems odd that Motson is still linking the Magpies to the relegation battle at this stage as the defeat to the Hammers came on the back of Benitez’s side achieving three wins on the bounce. These victories proved the Magpies were capable of racking up the results needed in the division, so it seems odd that he was so quick to jump on the fact the Hammers comfortably beat the Magpies.
