Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is waiting for the club’s top brass to sign off a deal for Atlanta United ace Miguel Almiron, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on its website that the Spaniard does not yet know whether owner Mike Ashley will sanction the move for the highly-rated playmaker, with a deal having already been negotiated for his services.

The report adds how head of recruitment Steve Nickson had a successful time discussing terms for the transfer of Almiron while out in America, but Benitez still has to face a nervous wait about whether the move will be greenlighted.

OPINION

Newcastle fans will no doubt be praying that this report is accurate, and that the club have got a deal for Almiron already in place. There is no point in explaining the impact he would have upon his potential arrival considering the form he has recently been in, but the fact that Benitez is facing a nervous wait about whether the move will be sanctioned will not raise anyone’s hopes. There is every chance that the deal can be hijacked by another club if it is not wrapped up soon, and the club would no doubt be kicking themselves for not giving the greenlight. Any club would be barking mad not to want to be at the front of the queue for Almiron – and seeming as this report says that Newcastle are, then they would be rather unwise not to make the most of it. Fingers crossed that Benitez’ nervous wait ends soon – as Almiron has the ability to transform them in an instant.
