Newcastle are wasting time on Joselu

Even though Newcastle United striker Joselu cannot get near the starting line-up these days, he is still disappointing everyone.

He has come on as a substitute for the last few matches and even then he has not managed to impress in the slightest, and he should be rather worried indeed.

His short cameo appearance against Everton on Wednesday was pretty much the icing on the cake in terms of his future with Newcastle, as any sort of effort he made was seriously lacking – and that is simply not good enough anymore.

It is no surprise that Salomon Rondon has been starting up front in his place, but ever since he has been benched and given numerous opportunities to have a good run out, he has just wasted them.

Newcastle are wasting their time in thinking that Joselu is going to get better because he simply is not based on his recent displays.

The chopping block surely beckons for the 28-year-old in the summer’s transfer window as he is just not at a standard needed for the Premier League anymore.

His short outing against West Ham resulted in him missing a glorious goal scoring chance and even then he managed to fluff his lines once again.

Fans will no doubt start to grow impatient with the Spaniard, but who could blame them?

It is just horror show after horror show and it is surprising how Benitez has not recognised that Joselu’s form is rapidly declining.

On Wednesday he looked rather tired despite only being on the pitch for around 15 minutes, and that should be the major concern above everything else.

What would happen if Rondon was sidelined with injury? Benitez would have a major selection headache then – and not a positive one – especially if Joselu’s fitness levels are also dipping.

Either way, the chopping block beckons for the £40,000-a-week [Spotrac] man after recent displays, and rightly so.
