Newcastle United goalkeeper is wanted by Leeds United in the January transfer window, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper reports on their website that the Whites have been monitoring the prospect of signing the young keeper due to the injuries to Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Jamal Blackman this season, as they want a stopper with plenty of first team experience to maintain their current promotion bid.

Woodman is said to be desperately keen on leaving on loan in the New Year and Leeds view the fringe player as a decent fit for their side.

OPINION

Obviously it comes as no surprise that Woodman wants to leave the club on loan in January, but it also does not come as a surprise that Leeds have expressed an interest in him. They have resorted to using Will Huffer in goal due to their crisis in between the sticks and they no doubt want a number one who is capable of keeping their promotion hopes alive. Woodman may not have been in the first team fold largely this season, but his performances for the under-21s has obviously caught the eye of Leeds. Come January, this would be the perfect move in terms of progressing his career, as he will be getting valuable game time at a club who could possibly be playing in the Premier League next season. This may force Rafa Benitez to think twice about his goalkeeping situation, or if he performs well, it may convince Leeds to keep him on that little bit longer.
