A section of Newcastle United fans have been left fuming at the display of midfielder Mo Diame in the 1-0 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Watford dominated possession in the first half at St James’ Park, with the Hornets providing most of the attacking threat against a Newcastle side who were relatively slow out of the blocks.

However, substitute Ayoze Perez netted in the 64th minute in what was the only goal of the game.

Many supporters were frustrated with the performance of the 31-year-old, with some comments including “stuck 2 seconds behind everyone else” and “not a footballer”.

COMMENTARY

What a surprise – the Newcastle fans have slammed the performance of Mo Diame for yet another week, but that is not really a shock is it? Yes, he had one shot saved by Watford keeper Ben Foster, but apart from that, the 31-year-old was bordering on invisible during this fixture. It is a shame that he has got worse over the course of this season, but sometimes that happens. However, the fans do not seem happy in the slightest – they are no doubt frustrated that he keeps getting a start despite his woeful form. Hopefully this match will send a message to Benitez, and that he does not start Diame again next week. One fan even said that Diame was making his “eyes bleed ” – seems harsh, but true all the same. He lacks quality and technical ability, and that should be of the utmost concern for the manager.
