Charlie Nicholas heaped praise on Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame for his performance during the 1-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that the central midfielder, who earns £45,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac),  was the player who impressed him the most during his side’s latest outing.

Nicholas shared that usually he believes Diame lacks discipline but he couldn’t fault the midfielder’s latest performance.

“The player who impressed me the most today was Diame, Diame is sometimes undisciplined for me in that position but today I thought he was very very impressive,” said Nicholas on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, Saturday November 3rd, 17:32).

OPINION

Nicholas was clearly blown away by Diame and didn’t seem to expect it. The Sky pundit pointed out how usually the midfielder lacks discipline, which is a fair opinion, but how that wasn’t the case on Saturday. While Nicholas was impressed by Diame’s display, it’s worth noting it was a tale of two halves. The 31-year-old struggled in the first 45 minutes of the match and looked like he was maintaining his poor start to the season. However Diame transformed during the game into the player that weaved his way into supporters’ hearts in the second half of his 2017/18 campaign. Hopefully the 31-year-old is now back to his old-self and will now continue to impress for the Magpies. Diame proved what a useful player he was for Rafa Benitez during the second half of the game the Hornets and that must continue. The Magpies veteran clearly is capable of delivering the goods in the Premier League after all, as his latest display more than proved that.
