The agent of Newcastle target Miguel Almiron has revealed he was in attendance for the Magpies’ 2-1 win over Bournemouth at St. James’ Park over the weekend.

Speaking to Paraguayan radio show Futbol a lo Grande, Daniel Campos said: “We saw the Newcastle game because we were in England.”

Newcastle were previously reported to be in talks over a deal for the Atlanta United forward in the summer [The Sun], with the club consistently named among those in the hunt for him since then as the January window approaches.

Speaking further on the subject, Campos also said: “There is nothing concrete but I’m sure Miguel Almiron will play in the Premier League.”

Almiron has scored 13 goals and laid on 13 assists in 35 games in all competitions for Atlanta this season.

OPINION

This is a promising development for Newcastle, who have been linked with a move for Almiron for several months now. First they were linked in the summer before being rumoured with a move again in recent weeks ahead of the January window. The Paraguay international has been in scintillating form for Atlanta United this season, ranking among the best players in the MLS quite easily. The 24-year-old is obviously destined for bigger things, and has become a target for several Premier League clubs. With the MLS season close to ending, a January move is a seriously realistic prospect for Almiron. These comments from his agent seem to confirm that they are working on his next move, and his assertion that Almiron will surely play in the Premier League is another positive sign for the Magpies. They will now just have to make sure that they are at the front of the queue for his signature, with Almiron having the talent to make a real impact for them in the second half of the season.
