Spanish sides Real Betis and Real Sociedad are both interested in a move for Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the two teams are in the frame for the 25-year-old, as they look to bring Perez back to his homeland for the first time since 2014.

Perez has long been a mainstay of Rafael Benitez’s side, and was the team’s top goalscorer in their return to the Premier League last season.

His form has drawn some criticism from Magpies supporters this campaign, however, although he did get on the scoresheet in the win over Watford earlier this month.

OPINION

This is an interesting one. Perez is far from universally adored on Tyneside but he remains an important part of the team and is one of Benitez’s most trusted players. The Spaniard continued to pick his countryman despite his poor form this term and seemingly views him as his number one choice in the number ten position. With that said, you would expect the Newcastle boss to provide stern opposition to a potential Perez sale. There aren’t many players with Perez’s skill set at Newcastle, and Benitez would surely have to receive reassurances about securing a like for like replacement for him to consider parting with the attacker. Perhaps, though, this might be the right time to cash in on the 25-year-old. His form has deteriorated this campaign and the club might view this interest as their last real chance to make some money on the player. Watch this space.
