Newcastle United must sign Celtic midfielder James Forrest in January as he could easily help them secure their Premier League status this season.

The 27-year-old right-sided Hoops midfielder has been in terrific form for his side this season and has been involved in a staggering 21 goals so far in the 24 appearances he has made.

Forrest has scored nine, while assisting 12, and it’s clear that if he arrived at St James Park then the firepower of Rafa Benitez’s side will be notably boosted as a result.

The right-sided midfielder may have never played his domestic football outside of Scotland but he clearly has the talents to excel in the English Premier League.

This opinion is also held by BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton as the 45-year-old was outraged at the mere suggestion that Forrest wouldn’t be able to cut it in England if a Premier League team came knocking.

“Was that a joke, he couldn’t play in the English Premier League?” Sutton said on Scottish Football Extra of BT Sport 1, which can be seen on the broadcaster’s official Twitter, on Saturday morning when hearing a question about Forrest.

“If we were having a straight pick, Fraser or Forrest, who would we pick? Ryan Fraser’s valued at what, £25million at Bournemouth?”

“James Forrest is every bit as good as Ryan Fraser, if not better.

“It’s insulting, I’m sick of it from down south.

“How many players do you want me to tell you he’s better than in the English Premier League? It’s out of order, it’s insulting, it’s rubbish.”

Given that Forrest could oust current first-choice Matt Ritchie from the Magpies’ first-team, or at the very least provide the top-quality cover Benitez’s side currently lack on the flanks, the Magpies must recruit him.

While the 27-year-old is an important player to the Hoops and they will cling to him as long as possible, the Magpies should have the funds to force the Scottish giants into selling.

Celtic previously sold current Premier League stars Victor Wanyama for £12.5million (Source: Daily Record) and Virgil van Dijk for £13million (Source: The Scottish Sun)

Therefore it’s easy to summarise that a bid in the region, or just north of £10million, could be enough for the Magpies to successfully get the talented Forrest on board in order to help their cause.

So therefore given the potential success Forrest could have at St James Park, the Magpies must prove an outraged Sutton right for believing the player could succeed in England by snapping him up.
